PANDEMICS
COVID-19: VAMOS ACABAR COM ISSO, E GARANTIR QUE NÃO ACONTEÇA NOVAMENTE.
It is time for us to work together for a solution. And the solution is not only in China or Africa, but global. In order to prevent further outbreaks of pandemics, it is necessary that we take global action and these include banning the global wildlife trade. The COVID-19 (2019) pandemic, as well as other past outbreaks, of other zoonoses such as Mers (2012), Sars (2003), Ebola (1976) are intrinsically related to the way we explore wildlife.

GLOBAL WEBINAR: NO MORE PANDEMICS
China closed all wildlife markets and banned all wildlife trade. But how many Brazilians, especially legislators, are aware of the volume of legal and illegal, domestic and transnational, wildlife trade right here in Brazil? How many see the deep and intrinsic link between the pandemic, the wildlife markets in China, and our “cultural habit” of keeping wild animals in captivity as pets or consuming bushmeat? It is getting late for governments to understand that conservation of biodiversity and healthy ecosystems are investments - not spenditures - and more, they are insurance policies for human security and well-being and for economic stability.
Text by Juliana M Ferreira, Biologist, MSc and PhD in Biology, founder and Executive Director of Freeland Brasil and Steve Galster, founder and CEO of Freeland Global.
